Child dental health charity based in Hull

Supervised tooth brushing for primary schools

In-school oral healthcare delivered in partnership with primary schools across the country.

How it works

  1. 01

    Talking to staff

We give an Oral Health Education talk to school staff, showing teachers and classroom assistants how to maintain toothbrush racks and follow cross-infection control.

  2. 02

    Talking to the class

We give the class an Oral Health Education talk and teach children a dry brushing technique using minimal toothpaste and no rinsing.

  3. 03

    Applying fluoride varnish

Our dental nurses visit each school twice a year to apply fluoride varnish to children whose parents or carers have given consent.

  4. 04

    Assessment

One of our dentists visits each school twice a year to carry out basic examinations and check the children's teeth, sending a letter home if further dental need is identified.

What people say

I love the fact that the children do get to brush their teeth while they're at school, because I'm aware that some of them don't at all at home.
Jade Vincent, Francis Askew Primary School Teacher
It has made a real difference to these children. They need to be on the same level as everybody else to have the same chances. I do think it gives them aspirations.
